About

How do we remain hopeful and find solace in our lives with so much uncertainty, inequality, and suffering in the world? How do we take care of ourselves while also supporting others? How do we practice compassion, with ourselves and with others, in an ever-divided world? How do we accept those parts of ourselves (and of others) that are so often judged or stigmatized by our society? How can we build and foster larger communities of mutual aid and peer support? These are some of the kinds of questions I often pose to clients as we explore together how our individually-lived experiences, coupled with larger historic and systemic trends, often influence the ways we understand and feel about our lives. My work with clients is rooted in a greater commitment to social justice that includes interrogating and challenging larger systems that promote prejudice, oppression, and inequality. For almost a decade, I have specialized in supporting clients working to address their substance use. My work has also included a client base consisting of individuals coping with depression, anxiety, and trauma. As I transitioned to practicing privately, I expanded my areas of specialization to include grief/bereavement counseling, and in particular family members and friends coping with unexpected deaths (e.g., due to overdose, suicide, or health conditions like Covid-19). My clinical practice draws heavily from strength-based and compassion-focused approaches, including solutions-focused therapy and motivational interviewing. I often pair my interest in psychodynamic therapy with a focus on attachment and family systems. I’m also a strong believer in exploring with clients about coping strategies and outlets that resonate deeply with their values. These may include therapeutic journaling, narrative techniques, mindfulness, various forms of meditation, and deep breathing.
